Grand Lake Stream

We're all enjoying the dog days of summer here in lovely Maine. A heat wave rolled on through so we decided to head even farther north up to Grandpa Peter's fishing camp in the small town of Grand Lake Stream. Here we are in front of the camp:

It was a four hour drive north from Brunswick and after we passed Bangor we took the dirt logging roads for the last hour and a half. Maggie was not pleased with this as she said the dust from the road was choking Elsie. We debated as to whether it was better to drive faster so as to beat out the dust or slower so as to kick up less of it. Anyway, Elsie survived...

The camp, or "cabin", as southern folk might say, is located beside the clear rushing waters of Grand Lake Stream, so we all got out of the heat and took a dip, including little Elsie. She was fearless! As you can see, we've altered the shots a little since aunt Ella claims internet predators might troll our baby blogs. This shot here though should please both those folks who've requested more documentation of Elsie's new "top knot" hairdo, and those who'd like to see more of her father's arms. (note the shoes, DKV!)

The next day we set out on the lake with our friends Dan and Malia. We are in a "Grand Laker" canoe here, which has a motor attached to the back.

Here we are on the shores of a small island in the middle of the lake.

At some point it started to rain so the men hid under rocks while the women stayed dry under the umbrella.

But then the sun came out again!

And Elsie needed her sunglasses!

which fit her dad a little better...

The next day Arthur and Maggie entered a kayak race on the lake and took first place in each of their respective categories. Of course there were not many entries and of those many were actually canoes and the some of the canoes filled up with water a tipped over. But we still won.

Back at the camp we went for many more swims in the stream, this time wearing bathing suits:

After that we went to the Teton Mountains where Elsie rode a real horse, see!

Yo, that's some serious vacationing!

I bet we'll see that real horse see again come Christmas card season.

Looking at all this makes me think that it must be a pretty nice life when you don't have to go to work. It reminds me kind of like a J. Crew catalog.

Wish you were here, Pete!

Nice skin suit, Art!

Some of us can't bike, run, swim, yoga, and raid the Nike store like the Pirates of the Caribbean, Pete.

As for the post:
Holy ROLLS!
Why is Elsie the only one naked?
Who brings an enormous golf umbrella on a canoe trip?
That kayak looks a bit anti-aerodynamic. Do you think the 'baru has enough left to be saddled with that sort of handicap?

Maybe the thinking was that the golf umbrella could double as safety equipment, like a water parachute or something, in case of capsize?

Look at how happy Elsie is on that horse! I'm glad to see that it runs in the family.

Isn't Arthur's croch blacked out in one of the shots ?
I'm kinda glad it is.

the golf umbrella is an anti-swarth device and I encourage my siblings to invest in one.
