Camping with the kids
We decided to take the girls camping over Memorial Day weekend. Elsie has this Curious George book called "Curious George Goes Camping" and ever since reading it she's wanted to check out the scene. Here we are hiking into the campsite on the Salmon River at the foot of Mt. Hood, just an hour drive from our Portland home:
Maggie did lots of research and ordered this big tent online since we figured our little backpacker tents weren't going to be so handy in this situation.
Elsie and Theo inspected their sleeping quarters and declared them good.
After setting up camp we went for a short hike in the Salmon/Huckleberry wilderness. Elsie was very into having her own backpack which she filled with essentials like her stuffed doggie and a book.
We took turns carrying Theo who's now weighing in around 27 lbs...
Theo found the hike relaxing...
Back at camp we built a fire and Daddy told ghost stories. Later on we roasted marshmellows and got them stuck all over our hands.
We all slept surprisingly well. Theo was a little fidgety and Vidamae wandered off in the early dawn to dig through some trash at a nearby campsite, but it was a restful night under the big trees and stars nonetheless. Elsie even slept late.

I don't understand why you emphasize Theo's weight. Twenty-seven pounds is pretty standard for a girl of 2.25 years. But at that age why isn't she walking and talking yet?
That's what I'd like to know.

I'm glad Elsie has figured out the essentials of life so quickly....a dog and a good book.
This is really so much, especially Theo; I'd like to join this family. But why are there not more pictures of Maggie? That's why we come here.
So glad Elsie has her own back pack now. Remembering how she commandeered Michelle's and insisted on wearing it all through supper.
